2-hydroxyisoindoline-1,3-dione

Used for organic synthesis and pharmaceutical intermediates; used as an additive in DCC-mediated peptide synthesis to improve yield and as a catalyst for oxidation reactions.
Overview
N-Hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) serves as a versatile catalyst and key synthetic intermediate in pharmaceutical chemistry. As an effective organocatalyst, it enables aerobic oxidation of alcohols and hydrocarbons to corresponding carbonyl compounds and carboxylic acids when combined with cobalt catalysts under mild conditions. In peptide synthesis, it significantly improves the yield of optically pure products in DCC coupling methods. NHPI is used in the synthesis of a new class of antibacterials potent against macrolide resistant bacteria. Also used in the synthesis of pyrazolidines, isoxazolidines and tetrahydrooxazines.
